Muslim marriages are based on a legal contract between the bride & groom that stipulates they will treat one another in certain ways and with kindness.
Mutual consent is of great importance for the marriage to be legal.
In order for your Muslim wedding ceremony (Nikkah) to be performed by Koh Samui's resident (Malay speaking) Imam, if the bride is Muslim, her groom will also need to be and convert in a brief ceremony before the wedding can take place. A dowry should amount should also be decided on by the groom and bride (or her family, if present).
After the Imam reads verses from the Quran, the Nikaah is completed with proposal and acceptance.
The marriage contract (the Nikaahnaama) will then be registered at the head Mosque in Bangkok.
